Encourage manufacturing sector: Tata Steels MD

Bangalore, Oct 17 (UNI) Tata Steels Managing Director B Muthuraman today stressed the need for encouraging the manufacturing sector for Economic development in the country.

''It is our first responsibility to enthuse the manufacturing mindset in our people,'' he said in his keynote address at a Conference on ''Manufacturing Competitiveness: Technology, Outsourcing and Innovation'', organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries' (CII) here.

Mr Muthuraman emphasized on the importance of standardization, improvement and innovation to make people think aspirationally and have the confidence to chase extraordinary goals. He also gave examples of how workers of Tata Steel have regular brainstorming sessions to innovate and find solutions for the manufacturing needs.

He said "Education is no bar to innovation. The key to a successful manufacturing company is people with a manufacturing mindset.'' Karnataka Minister Murgesh Nirani, speaking at the Inaugural session, said that mnanufacturing was crucial for the economy. The effect of improvement in manufacturing sector goes far beyond the goods provided by it. Karnataka has a strong base of manufacturing enterprise.

Stating that Karnataka had immense potential for core sector industries like steel and cement due to ample availability of mineral resources. To harness this potential to the fullest extent, he said the atate government proposes to develop separate industrial zones for steel and cement. besides exclusive zones for food processing, IT/BT, automobile and ready made garments would be developed benefiting the districts which are strong in these sectors.

Mr Nirani also released the CII KPMG White paper on Manufacturing: 'India at 75' during the session.
