Central team visits drought-hit areas
Gulbarga, Karnataka, Oct 17 (UNI) A three-member Central team today visited some of the drought-affected areas in Afjalpur, Aland and Gulbarga Taluks in the district to assess the losses and submit a report to the Union Government.
The team, headed by Mr Dasmuk G Gurumukhi, visited some of the areas, including Chawjapur and Gangapur and interacted with farmers for first hand information on drought conditions and crop loss.
Talking to reporters, Mr Gurumukhi said the Centre received a request from the State Government three days ago urging it to send a team to assess loss due to drought.
The Centre had deployed two teams to visit the drought-affected areas in the State to assess the crop damage.
Mr Gurumukhi said there was loss of produce due to drought. The team had interacted with a cross section of society in the district to have first hand on the situation.
Keeping the norms in mind, the team will do its best, ''We will submit our report to the Centre after having discussions with the officials of the State and other teams,'' he informed.
