BJP flays Assam govt for its failure to contain violence

Guwahati, Oct 17 (UNI) The BJP today alleged that the Assam government had failed to contain violence in the state's Udalguri and Darrang districts.

The party also demanded an extensive report on the communal clashes.

BJP Vice-President Jewel Oram, heading a parliamentary delegation that visited the violence-striken areas yesterday, said the Assam government did not take stern measures to curb the disturbances that began since August 14.

Mr Oram added that radical fundamentalist outfits were involved in the communal clashes.

''During our visit, the violence-affected people narrated their plights and accused the government of its failure in providing security. We have also come across cases of massacres by some evil elements during the riots,'' he said.

The Vice-President also warned of legal actions against the Assam government.

The members of delegation included MP(Rajya Sabha) Anusuia Uike and BJP state unit president Romen Deka.
