Techie held for sending threat mails to Prez
New Delhi, Oct 16: A 23-year old computer engineer working with leading IT major Infosys Technologies was detained in Chennai on Wednesday, Oct 15 for alegedly sending a threatening e-mail to President Pratibha Patil. The suspect Sriram worked in the Infosys office in Mahindra City, on the outskirts of Chennai.
The Chennai Police and the Central Security agencies, after screening through dozens of Internet Protcol addresses, zeroed in on two persons who were extensively questioned, official sources said. The sources said one person, identified as Sriram Jagannath, a computer programmer, was placed under arrest for sending the hate mails to the President's official website 'www.presidentofindia.gov.in.' The emails, sent from the ID '[email protected],' hurled abuses at Patil and also threatened her with dire consequences. Patil had also received an email on Sunday, Oct 12 and it was traced by security agencies to Tamil Nadu.
