Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) Sirsa district has bagged the first position in the Nirmal Gram Puruskar Scheme in the country to receive the maximum number of awards.
The district has also got its name registered in the Limca Book of World records, Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Urvashi Gulati said in Hisar today.
She said 3209 panchayats had been shortlisted from nine states for the Nirmal Gram Puruskar, who would receive this award by the President Pratibha Devisingh Patil tomorrow.
She said 798 panchayats of Haryana been had selected for this award and 270 village panchayats belonged to Sirsa district alone.
Ms Gulati said special incentives would be given for the development of the villages which were declared Nirmal villages.
Haryana Government would receive an amount of Rs 10 crore by the Central government for the development of the Nirmal villages of the state, she added.
