Mah Govt responsible for farmers' problems : Shetty

Kolhapur, Oct 16 (UNI) Swabhimani Shetakari Sanghatana (SSS) founder and MLA Raju Shetty today charged that the ruling Maharashtra government was responsible for farmers' woes.

Addressing the parishad of cane growers at Jaisingpur village of this district, Mr Shetty alleged that during the last assembly elections, the leaders of the ruling parties had given false promises of giving free electricity to farmers. After attaining power, they introduced load shedding of about 15-17 hours, causing hardship to farmers.

He said the rulers should now reflect on their empty promises.

He demanded immediate implementation of a report submitted by Mr T Haque, ex-chairman of the commission of agriculture costs and prices, to the Union Government.

The cane parishad was attended by a large number of farmers from Western Maharashtra, in which some eight resolutions have been adopted including crushing price of Rs 1,800 per tonne for cane growers.
