Kerala to achieve self-sufficiency in food grains: minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 16 (UNI) Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran today said the state government was striving to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of food grains, milk, eggs, meat and vegetables.
Inaugurating the world food-day celebrations here, he said the state would achieve considerable progress in paddy cultivation by 2010.
Mr Divakaran said the government had recently launched a Food Security Programme in the state and efforts were on to make the state self-sufficient in food production in the context of global food crisis.
He called upon all political parties to work together to achieve this goal, putting behind their political differences.
Pointing out that adulteration was a serious offence, he warned that the government would take stern against the menace.
Stating that starvation was one of the worst problems, he said it would lead to violence in the world.
He also said more people in the world were dying because of starvation than in wars.
