Supporters of Gem-robbery accused manhandle lensman

Phagwara, Oct 15 (UNI) A photo-journalist was today manhandled by the supporters of diamond jewellery robbery accused Mohit Sharma.

Ajit Singh Chawla of Daily Ajit, Jalandhar, alleged that people accompanying Mohit Sharma, son of SSP Vigilance Shiv Kumar Sharma, snatched his camera and manhandled him when he tried to click his photo while he, along with other accused Harbans Lal, was coming out of Phillaur Court Complex after an hearing of the case regarding looting of gems worth crores from a Mumbai-based jeweller who was on a business trip here.

The scribe claimed that though his camera was given back to him later, one of the attackers, reportedly a Sub-Inspector in Ludhiana Police in plain clothes, also threatened him with ''dire consequences''. Journalists of Phillaur have strongly condemned the incident.

Meanwhile, Phillaur Judicial Magistrate has sent both the accused in police remand for two more days for further interrogation.
