Rs 52 lakh disbursed among handicapped and others in Leh

Srinagar, Oct 15 (UNI) Under various centrally and state sponsored schemes, an amount of Rs 52.27 lakh has been disbursed as financial assistance and scholarships among nearly 3000 eligible beneficiaries of Leh district.

The beneficiaries included physically handicapped, deserted women, social castes and economically weaker sections of the district.

Under integrated Social Security Scheme, 1244 people have been provided Rs 33.88 lakh as old age pension while Rs 12.37 lakh have been provided to 380 students belonging to Schedule Tribe Community as post- metric scholarships.

Rs 3.52 lakh have been disbursed among 1382 students as pre-metric scholarships. Another Rs 2.50 lakh have been provided to 25 widows under National Benefit scheme.

The Social Welfare Department has also established one Bal-ashram and one Nari-Niketan in the district Leh.

As many as 75 orphan and neglected children of the area are presently provided with free boarding, lodging and schooling facilities in these institutions.
