PM, Speaker greet Adiga on Booker victory

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated debut novelist Aravind Adiga on winning the prestigious Man Booker prize 2008, for ''The White Tiger''.

In a message, he said, ''The nation is proud of this international recognition of his talent''.

Chennai-born Adiga (33) is among the youngest winners of the literary award as also one of three first time writers to claim the award.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in a congratulatory message, said, ''At a time when Indian authors and writers have already established their mettle in the international literary scene, the conferment of this award on Mr Adiga is yet another feather in their cap.'' He expressed hope that ''conferment of this coveted award on an Indian author will inspire and encourage aspiring young authors to produce quality literature of world standard.'' UNI SD SB BD140
