One militant killed, IED recovered in Kahsmir

Srinagar, Oct 15 (UNI) One militant was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, while security forces recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), police spokesman said today.

He said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at village Khodi Sogam early this morning following a tip-off about the presence of militants there.

During the operation militants opened fire on search party, ensuing a gun battle in which one militant was killed.

One AK Rifle, 4 magazines 40 rounds, 1 hand grenade and one pouch were recovered from the slain militant.

Security forces averted a major tragedy when they recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Tangmerg-Gulmarg road which was later defused without causing any damage.
