Eve teasing halts Durga Puja proceesion for one day

Sultanpur, Oct 15 (UNI) The delayed ritual of immersion of Goddess Durga idol was performed here today as the Durga Puja Samitis put it off for their demands over an eve-teasing incident.

The matter had started on Friday, when some revellers had eve-teased a girl at a religious programme at Muzafirkhana bazaar, sources said.

The incident invited the wrath of the members of another group, which took to streets in protest, demanding action against the guilty.

The mob even blocked the Lucknow-Varanasi route and vandalised vehciles, including the UPSRTC buses.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case against seven protestors for disturbing peace.

The procession, marking the end of the Durga Puja celebrations, was to be taken out yesterday, concluded today after police lodged an FIR against the guilty revellers on the demand of the irked Durga Puja Samitis.
