VCK activists arrested for burning effigies of Rajapakse
Chennai, Oct 14 (UNI) About 50 activists of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) were arrested when they burnt the effigies of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse in two places in the city today to condemn the killing of Sri Lankan Tamils.
Police said while 30 of them were arrested at Chintadripet near Egmore for burning the effigy, 20 others were arrested for a similar offence at MGR Nagar area.
The agitation was organised by South Chennai district unit of the party.
All the arrested were later released.
A report from Kancheepuram said 77 activists, including 12 women were arrested for burning the effigies of Mr Rajapakse. About 750 activists were arrested in the entire district for a similar offence.
