Three sentenced to imprisonment for electrocuting lions
Rajkot, Oct 14 (UNI) In a significant judgement, a court at Dhari has sentenced three people to imprisonment for electrocuting five lions.
According to prosecution, three lionesses and two cubs were electrocuted after they came in contact with a barbed wire fence fitted along the farm of one Durlabhji Vadodaria at Prempura village in Dhari tehsil of Amreli district on October 19 last year. Their carcasses were found buried in the field.
Magistrate I I Pathan yesterday found Vadodaria, the farm owner, his son Parshotam and one Ravji Chhagan guilty of the crime under various sections of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and awarded the sentence of various jail terms.
Vadodaria was sentenced to three- year imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 30,000, his son was awarded one-and-half month jail term and fine of Rs 150 and Chhagan got two-and-half month imprisonment and a fine of Rs 250. While, the court acquitted Bhima Bharwad of the charge.
