Students attack MTC staff

Chennai, Oct 14 (UNI) A group of students attacked three employees of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) near Madras High Court Bus Terminus late last night.

Police said the students were angry over the delayed departure of the bus and tried to drive away with the vehicle when the incident occurred.

The students, who had boarded Bus No 7F from High Court to Korattur at 2330 hrs, were apparently tired of waiting for the bus to leave.

When Bus Driver Palani was away to meet the timekeeper, one of the students attempted to start the bus.

On seeing this, the driver, the timekeeper and a mechanic rushed to the vehicle and prevented their attempt.

A verbal duel ensued and in the melee, the students attacked the MTC crew and fled the scene.

All the three MTC men sustained injuries and were admitted to the Government General Hospital where they were treated as out patients.

Esplanade police have registered a case.
