Six bookies held, electronic goods worth Rs 2.9 lakh seized
Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) Six bookies were arrested by city police for allegedly indulging in betting on India vs Australia cricket match, which is being played at Bangalore.
Acting on a tip-off that betting on cricket was going on in a flat number D-12, Rustamji Rivehra complex, Marve at Malad, a western suburb, a police team raided the flat last evening and arrested six people and seized electronic goods, including laptop, 30 mobile phones and colour television set, worth Rs 2.9 lakh from the spot, police said today.
The arrested accused were identified as Ketan Bhagwandas Gandhi (41), Amit Jayantibhai Popat (31), Sonu Yogendrea Jalan (32), Mitesh Girishbhai Soni (27), Kirit Nagardas Panchal (28) and Pradeep Ankush Kale (32). All were arrested under Gambling act.
The accused were also booked for making forge documents to procure SIM cards of mobile phones to transact the business, they added.
