Patil pacifies Aurangabad minority community corporators
Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) Minority community corporators of the Aurangabad Municipal corporation, who had threatened to resign over the Dhule riots, were pacified by the Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil at a marathon meeting at Mantralaya today.
State Minorities Committee chairperson Nasim Siddiki told mediapersons after the meeting that the minority corporaters were satisfied and withdraw their decision to resign over the Dhule riots.
The corporators, led by ex-Mayor of Aurangabad Rashid Mamu of Congress, had complained that the minority community is being discriminated against by some police officers. After Dhule riots, more youths of the minority were jailed than any other community, they said.
Mr Patil told the corporators that the government would appoint committees, which would look into grievances of the minorities, the corporators added.
Mr Siddiki said 13 corporatars of Congress, 4 of NCP and 2 independents attended the meeting with Mr Patil. He said that although there is increase in the incidents of riots and communal strife in the State, he as the chairperson of the minorities commission is quite satisfied about the performance of the state government in handling the situation.
