Jeddah-bound passenger arrested with currency worth Rs18 lakh
Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) The Air Intelligence unit of the Customs Department today arrested an Indian on way to Jeddah and seized currency worth Rs 18.10 lakh from him.
Acting on a tip-off, the Customs officials intercepted Syed Abdul Nashir, an Indian passport holder, who was to depart to Jeddah via Kuwait by Kuwait Airways flight. On examination of his hand baggage, the officials recovered India currency to the tune of Rs six lakh and Saudi Riyal 1,00,000, collectively equivalent to Rs 18.10 lakh, an official release said.
The passenger, on inquiry, admitted procurement, possession, carriage, concealment of the Indian and foreign currency. Further investigations were in progress, the release said.
