Dasmunsi on ventilator still, condition stable

New Delhi, Oct 14: Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi who suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday, Oct 13 continues to be on life support in AIIMS for the second day.

Dasmunsi was rushed to the hospital at around 2.30 am on Monday, Oct 3 after he complained of breathlessness due to lung congestion caused by heart failure and suffered a total left ventricular failure of the heart, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Dr D K Sharma said. "Dasmunsi's condition continues to be serious, but stable," Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Dr D K Sharma said. "He is under close observation in Coronary Care Unit (CCU)," AIIMS Spokesperson Y K Gupta informed.

A multi-discipline team of doctors led by HoD of cardiology department Dr V K Behl was treating him. "His blood pressure, pulse rate and respiration have been recovered. But he is still on ventilator," Behl said.

Explaining his condition, Behl said, "The function of the left ventricle is to pump blood efficiently to the body. This was not happening at the time of his admission. He (Dasmunsi) was completely breathless and had lung congestion."

President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are expected to visit Munshi at AIIMS on Tuesday, Oct 14 to inquire about his health.

Known to be one of the most energetic leaders of the present era, and is a person to reckon with in West Berngal political circles.
