22 killed, 23 injured in bus accident

Dehra Dun, Oct 14 (UNI) In a devastating accident, 22 passengers were killed and 23 injured when their bus fell into a 500 m deep trench near Takhila on the Rishikesh-Chamba rajmarg this morning.

According to District Magistrate Tehri-Garhwal Birendra Singh, the accident occured at 0930 hrs this morning when the bus, which was en route from Rishikesh to Devprayag with 45 passengers, fell into the deep trench after it was hit by large rock.

Rescue officials pulled out 22 bodies from the bus while 23 injured passengers had been admitted to a local hospital, Mr Singh said.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) B C Khanduri has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident.
