Sonu brought-out dead from borewell

Lahara village(UP), Oct 13: Army has finally succeeded in bringing out the 2 year old Sonu from the 150 ft deep borewell after 4 days. But, to everyone's dismay Sonu was dead by the time Army could reach him. The rescue operation has been the largest of its kind undertaken anywhere in the country. Riot control units are on standby to maintain law and order, in case there is a backlash from the locals.

Sonu fell into a 150-foot-deep borewell at around 0945 hrs IST on Thursday, Oct 9 while playing outside his house in Lehrakapura village near Shamsabad town, 26 km from Agra. A parallel well was dug near the borewell, as it was just one foot in diameter, so that the rescue team could reach the boy through a tunnel. The borewell was dug up some two-three months ago but was abandoned.

In March, authorities rescued a two-year-old girl Vandana in Agra who accidentally fell into a 45-feet borewell at Tehra village.

In a similar incident, a five-year-old boy, Prince, fell into a 53 feet and 1.5 wide shaft in Shahbad, Haryana in July 2006. The army rescued him from the pit after two days of rescue operations.
