Shutdown in Baramulla cripples life in Kashmir

Baramulla, Oct 13: Life was today crippled in this north Kashmir town in protest against the alleged arrest of youths, damaging of vehicles and window panes by the security forces last night.

Shops and business establishments in the entire town remained closed and traffic was off the roads.

Work in government offices, government undertakings and banks was affected due to strike.

Educational institutions also wore a deserted look.

At some places, including old town, people took to streets raising ''pro-freedom'' slogans.

The processionists alleged that security forces have started indiscriminate arrests of youths, who have taken part in recent ''pro freedom'' demonstrations.

They alleged that late in the night security forces damaged vehicles parked on roadside and window panes of dozens of houses. They demanded immediate action against the security forces personnel, in the damage of vehicles and houses.
