PMC, Left want Pondy Govt to check prices

Puducherry, Oct 13 (UNI) The Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) and the Left parties here today urged the administration to take immediate steps to check price rise.

Addressing a joint press conference, Mr K Lakshminarayanan, MLA, (PMC), Mr Na Ra Kalainathan,MLA (CPI) and Mr V Perumal, CPI(M) Secretary said the three-party front had already sought a White Paper on the financial crisis in the union territory.

However, the Chief Minister and his collegues were reluctant to divulge the full details.

The financial crunch had affected social welfare and prices of essentials were skyrocketing.

With the festival season round the corner, the government should take immediate steps to curb price rise and arrange the sale of 15 commodities through the fair price shops here.

Recalling, Union Minister of State for Planning V Narayanasamy had complained of hoarding here, they demanded that the administration take steps to put an end to hoarding and black marketing.

They also said the subsidy of Rs 30 for LPG cylinders should be extended to those with even double cylinders The leaders wanted all murder and burglary cases, which occurred during Mr Rangasamy's tenure as Chief Minister, to be handed over to the CBI since the accused were escaping from the clutches of law.

The parties would organise a joint propoganda campaign, to press the demands, in all 23 Assembly constituencies in Puducherry Region from October 14 to 17.
