Life remains crippled in Srinagar down town for 4th day

Srinagar, Oct 13 (UNI) Life remained paralysed in the down town city for the 4th day today due to spontaneous strike in protest against the death of two youths and injuries to many people allegedly in security force firing and teargassing on Friday.

Shops and business establishments in most down town areas, including Nowhatta, Nallah mar, Rajouri Kadal, Bohri Kadal, Rainawari and Khanyar remained closed.

Though the passenger transport remained off the roads, private vehicles and three wheelers could be seen plying in the affected areas.

Today was the fourth day ''fateha'' of two youths who were killed in security force firing on pro-freedom processionists at Nowhatta on Friday.

Yesterday, about 40 people, including 16 CRPF and police personnel, were injured in day-long clashes. The injured included a police officer.

Residents of areas falling under four police stations in the down town yesterday alleged that authorities had imposed undeclared curfew from Saturday morning. However, there was no such restriction today, they said.
