Curfew relaxed for two hours in Burhanpur

Burhanpur, MP, Oct 13 (UNI) Curfew was relaxed for two hours but only for women in this Madhya Pradesh communal violence-hit town this morning.

''Curfew was relaxed for women from 0800 hours to 1000 hours this morning. Curfew would be relaxed for another two hors from 1600 hours to 1800 hours this evening,'' Collector Kerolin Khegwar Deshmukh said.

No untoward incident was reported during the past 24 hours.

Inspector General of Police (Indore range) Anil Kumar said the situation was improving in Burhanpur.

However, additional police force was deployed in nearby Pantuha village following incident of arson last night. Miscreants had attempted to set a few houses on fire but no casualty was reported.

Petrol and weapons had been seized from some houses and 15 people arrested in this connection.

Nine people have died and 27 injured in violence that hit the town on Friday. About 150 people have been arrested in this connection.

Mr Kumar said the body of farmer Shriram Madhav (50), with wound mark on his head, was found from a well at Phophnagar village in this district but the incident had no connection with the communal violence.

The peasant was going on his motorcycle when someone attacked him with the objective of looting him and threw him into the well before fleeing away with his motorcycle.
