Call for encouraging organ donation
Tiruchirapalli,Oct 13 (UNI) Dr Asokan and his wife, Dr A Pushpanjali, who donated their son Hitendran's organs after he became brain-dead following an accident recently, appealed to the Union and State Governments to encourage organ donation by removing all bottlenecks.
Addressing the press here last night, the couple said they planned to launch a trust in Hitendran's name within a fortnight to create awareness among people about organ donation and road safety.
The trust would bond government and non-governmental organisations in creating awareness on these two common causes among people.
It would also issue donor cards to those who were willing to donate organs.
The card would contain details of organs to be donated and the hospital where they could be transplanted.
There was a strong case for creating infrastructure for organ transplantation in more hospitals in the State.
The Tamil Nadu State should be divided into four zones with each provided with adequate infrastructure facilities for transplantation, they said.
