Aircel inks $400 mn pact with ZTE for GSM
New Delhi, Oct 13: Indian telecom operator Aircel has signed a 400 million dollar GSM network infrastructure project deal with ZTE Corporation, a leading Chinese telecommunications equipment and network solutions provider, to expand GSM coverage in the country.
''The deal of ZTE with Maxis, the largest mobile telecom operator in Malaysia, will help Aircel establish GSM network infrastructures in the country to expand GSM coverage,'' a statement said. Aircel, the fifth largest mobile telecom operator in the country, has a subscriber base of over 11 million users. It is currently operating in 10 telecom circles-- Assam, Bihar, Chennai, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Calcutta, North East, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal-- and has secured licences for the remaining 13 of the 23 telecom circles.
