Two held for selling SIM cards illegally in Jammu

Jammu, Oct 12: In a bid to tighten noose on open sale of mobile SIM cards without verification of the customers and following the directions of the Union Ministry, the sleuths of District Special Branch (DSB) arrested two people along with SIM cards, which were being issued to the subscribers without authentication, sources said.

''As the Union Ministry has directed all the Telecom groups to confirm the verification of the customers before issuing SIM cards, the sleuths of DSB yesterday apprehended two youths from Nanak Nagar area for illegally selling the SIM cards of two private companies without identification,'' sources told the sources.

The DSB team however, in civvies purchased a SIM card from the accused without submitting any document and later both of them were taken into custody.

''The cards were being sold for Rs 500 against the company's rate of Rs 200 without asking for any verification of the customers,'' the sources added.

The accused were identified as Gurmeet Singh, resident of Nanak Nagar and Ishfaq Ahmed, resident of Sabjian, Poonch. Both of them were arrested along with 40 SIM cards of two private companies.
