One shot dead over puja row in Nalanda

Biharsharif, Oct 12 (UNI) A person was killed and three others were injured when a group of assailants opened fire in order to prevent them from offering prasad to the idol of Goddess Durga at Bind locality of Jiyar village under Asthawan police station in Nalanda district.

Police here today said the miscreants prevented Ranjit Paswan and his co-villagers from entering into the temple yesterday to offer prasad to the Goddess, resulting in a clash between the two groups.

The mob pelted stones on each other followed by the shootout in which Ranjit Paswan sustained bullet injuries.

Later, he succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Patna for treatment.

Three others injured in the stone pelting were discharged from a local hospital after first aid.

A named FIR against seven people had been lodged. Two of the accused, namely Baleshwar Pandit and Devi Singh, had been arrested in this connection while five others were absconding, the police said.
