'Goondas Act' passed to supress opposition: Anbazhagan
Puducherry, Oct 12 (UNI) AIADMK Puducherry Secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, today alleged that the administration was intending to introduce 'Goondas Act' in the Union Territory to supress Opposition parties.
Adressing a press conference here, hesaid the law and order in Puducherry could be maintained by properly utilising the Indian Penal Code and the National Security Act.
However, since 90 per cent of the police force were 'puppets' in the hands of Ministers, the law and order situation had deteriorated, he alleged.
Even though, most of the political parties opposed the introduction of the Goondas Act in the Union Territory in the all party meeting convened by the Chief Minister two days ago, the government was going ahead with the proposal only to settle scores of political vengeance, he alleged.
Mr Anbazhagan demanded that in case of the introduction of the Act, all clauses in the Act should be made clear to the public.
He also demanded that the Winter Session of the Assembly beginning here on October 20 should be continued for ten days to have a detailed discussion on the Act.
He urged the administration to provide a ten per cent enhanced bonus to the textile workers in view of the steep price rise.
