Chennai city, suburbs receive scattered rainfall

Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) Thanks to the formation of a trough over Sri Lanka and its neighbourhood, Chennai city and suburbs received scattered rainfall since last night.

People woke up to a few spells of rain and overcast sky this morning as several parts of city experienced heavy rain.

Several low lying areas were flooded and traffic snarls were witnessed in some areas.

The rains, which were heavy at times, came in spells, bringing much relief to the people of this metropolis, who were virtually reeling under an extended summer season.

With the sun playing hide and seek, the city witnessed overcast sky for a major portion of the day.

Weather office sources told UNI that under the influence of the trough, Tamil Nadu was expected to receive widespread rains during the next 48 hours, with isolated heavy showers in some parts.

The forecast for Chennai city was generally cloudy with a couple of spell of rains.
