UPSPB in rage over shrinked payment to 1984 riot victims
Lucknow, Oct 11 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Sikh Pratinidhi Board (UPSPB) has taken strong exception on the part of the state government for not making payment of the compensation to the 1984 riots affected Sikh families as announced by the Central government two years ago.
Board's president Dr Gurmeet Singh in a press conference here today said the state government had done nothing in holding preliminary probe before giving compensation 10 times of their losses as announced by Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh two years ago.
He said the state government till date had only distributed compensation to 583 families out of the 5,000 Sikh families, who had suffered losses in the riots 23 years ago.
'' The state government had also approved compensation to 3,000 other Sikh families but, till date nothing has been paid to them'', he said.
Dr Singh said under the new formula, the state government was paying Rs 5,000 for the loss of Rs one lakh, however, two years back the Centre had increased the compensation by 10 times.
