Rajapakse effigy burnt

Jayamkondam, Oct 11 (UNI) Members of the Ariyalur district unit of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Party led by District Secretary Thirumavalavan today burnt an effigy of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse at a busy junction here.

Police said they partymen were protesting against the alleged genocide against Tamils in Sri Lanka. The partymen also raised slogans against Rajapakse and the Sri Lankan army.

On being informed, police rushed to the spot and doused the burning effigies.
