PDP demands probe into Srinagar firing
Srinagar, Oct 11: The peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday, Oct 11 demanded a judicial probe into Friday, Oct 10 CRPF and police firing on agitators in Sher-e-Khas (SeK) in which two people were killed and scores wounded.
PDP youth wing general secretary Bashir Asad, in a statement here, demanded judicial probe into the incident and stern action against the security personnel involved in the killing and injuring of innocents.
He also strongly condemned the alleged use of excessive force on protestors in which two people were killed and dozens injured.
He described the incident as sheer frustration of the administration.
Mr Asad said such incidents bring out the failure of the administration in dealing with the peaceful protestors and would further derail the peace initiative for the resolution of the crises at one political level.
The PDP has warned that use of excessive force by law-enforcing agencies would add fuel to the fire and further worsen the situation.
''Mishandling of the situation would only deteriorate the situation and add to the public anger,'' Mr Asad said and asserted that inefficiency and inability of the administration was obvious because strong-arm methods and use of excessive force comes into play only when anti-people and vested interests are at the helm of affairs.
In absence of a popular government, the officers looking after the law and order situation are supposed to be mature enough to uphold the role of law in the extraordinary situations, he said, and alleged that unfortunately the people are being crushed which leads to further alienation of the common masses.
