Mob injures two policemen, torches shops at Makordah

Howrah, Oct 11 (UNI) Two policemen were injured, two buses damaged and several shops torched by a rampaging mob at Makordah under Domjur Police Station in the district today.

Superintendent of Police Neeraj Singh said the policemen were injured when a mob threw stones at them.

He said the policemen tried to intervene in the violence that sparked off following yesterday's incident in which a person was beaten to death and another injured in a clash between members of a puja committee and some anti-social elements inside a temple.

Mr Singh said 32 people were arrested in connection with the violence. A large contingent of police and Rapid Action Force jawans had been deployed in the area to tacke the situation.

Though tension was palpable in the area, the situation was under control, he added.
