2 policemen injured as mob sets fire in WB
Howrah, Oct 11: Two policemen were injured, as many buses damaged and several shops set ablaze by a rampaging mob at Makordah under Domjur Police Station in the district on Saturday, Oct 11. Superintendent of Police Neeraj Singh said the policemen rpt policemen were injured when a mob threw stones at them.
He said the policemen tried to intervene in the violence that sparked off following yesterday's incident, in which a person was beaten to death and another injured in a clash between members of a puja committee and some anti-socials inside a temple.
Mr Singh said 32 people were arrested in connection with the violence. A large contingent of police and Rapid Action Force jawans had been deployed in the area to tacke the situation.
Though tension was palpable in the area, the situation was under control, he added.
