JCT blank Mohammedian Sporting 2-0 in I-League
Ludhiana, Oct 11 (UNI) Punjab's premier outfit, JCT, Phagwara began their I-League campaign on home ground in style by blanking Mohammedian Sporting, Kolkata, 2-0 at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
Playing their first match on their homeground this season, JCT outplayed their opponents and should have won by a bigger margin.
The goal scorers for the home side were Baljit Sawhney (45th) and Brazilian striker, Eduardo D'Silva (65th).
With this victory, the millmen took their points tally to seven points, with two victories and one draw. JCT had played their first two matches of the League at Goa. The Kolkata outfit remained on one point after today's loss, their second in the League this season.
Backed by the home crowd, JCT were at their best as they carried out a number of raids on their rival citadel. The Kolkata defence however kept the menacing JCT forwards at bay all through the first half.
In the last minute of the first half, Eduardo moved down the right flank and sent a measured cross inside the penatly area.
Baljit Sawhney darted in to tap the ball past the diving Mohammedian custodian.
The second goal for the millmen came in the 65th minute through their star stroker Eduardo. It was a brilliant solo effort by Brazilian who darted past a host of defenders and smashed the ball to the right of the Mohammedian goalkeeper much to the joy of the JCT supporters.
The millmen play their next match here on October 18 against Mahindra United, Mumbai.
