FSI detects high quality perch around Andaman Islands
Port Blair, Oct 11 (UNI) After a recent survey of Andaman sea,Fishery Survey of India (FSI) has revealed that areas near West,East and Long Islands are amazingly productive as high quality perch resources were found three in abundance.
'' The vessel MFV Blue Marlin attached to FSI conducted the survey using vertical long line gear around Andaman group of Islands between September 11 to 30 '' A Anrose, Zonal Director, FSI told reporters here today.
During the 20-day survey, a total of 10,140 hooks were operated by the FSI and the vessel also covered areas near some remote islands like Havelock, Neil Island, Long Island, Diglipur, East Island, West Island, Middle bank, South bank and North Sentinel Island, he added.
''Twelve miles west of West Island, we have located good perch ground'' he said, adding Havelock was also found to be productive ground for perch resources.
The FSI is continuously conducting such surveys in Andaman Sea so that the local fishermen could venture into areas to harvest the high quality perch resources, he stated.
