BJP, AASU lambast Assam govt on Pakistani flag issue
Guwahati, Oct 11 (UNI) The BJP today demanded President's Rule in Assam alleging that the state government compromised national security by ''soft peddling'' the Pakistani angle in the recent riots of Darrang and Udalguri districts.
BJP national vice-president Bijoya Chakarabarty, addressing a press conference, alleged that the way the state government was treating the Jehadis, it was more than evident that it had soft spot for them.
''This is very dangerous as the state government does not even have the courage to identify the slain Jihadis for fear of losing Muslim vote,'' she said.
Referring to recent Pakistan media report on Assam, she said immigrant Muslim settlers were openly pursuing the agenda of Pan-Islamisation in Assam before an ''incompetent'' state government.
''Now they are hoisting flags of Pakistan in Assam and the state government instead of taking action, are trying to hush up the matter. It is a big national security risk,'' she said.
She also took umbrage at the visit of Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed to Udalguri and Daarang and demanded that the Union Home Minister should have visited the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) echoing similar tone in a press conference accused the state government of protecting interest of the Jihadis.
AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Kr Bhattacharya made a video presentation of proof of Pakistani flag flying in the riot hit areas.
''Here is the proof and there are hundreds of evidence of Pakistani slogan shouting and flag hoisting but yet the state government is not taking any strong action against the fundamentalist elements for fear of disrupting vote banks of the minorities,'' he said.
The AASU team which had visited the Mangaldoi districts twice in the last one week said that it was clearly evident that the state government was not trying to protect the innocent indigenous citizens but was concentrating more on the interest of the immigrant Muslim settlers.
