AIADMK volunteers held for road roko stir
Kancheepuram, Oct 11 (UNI) About 25 AIADMK volunteers, including District secretary and Legislator G Hari were arrested as they staged a road roko agitation, protesting against the removal of a huge plaque, they had installed, marking the centenary celebrations of late Chief Minister C N Annadurai.
Tension prevailed this morning, when the state Highways authorities removed a 12 ft high plaque, installed by the local AIADMK functionaries, three days ago after celebrating the centenary of Anna.
Senior AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam had unveiled the granite plaque, which had portraits of Annadurai and party Supremo J Jayalalithaa.
As the plaque was installed on the roadside, causing traffic problem, the highways authorities removed it this morning. The authorities also removed a plaque installed by the DMK 20 years ago and another by the PMK.
Objecting to this, AIADMK volunteers, led by Mr Hari staged the road roko agitation and raised slogans against the government.
They had also damaged the windscreen of a state Corporation bus, police said.
Local DMK volunteers also had a wordy duel with the Highways authorities for removing the party plaque.
