Veg price rise checked after violence subsides in Assam
Guwahati, Oct 10 (UNI) The vegetable prices, which witnessed tremendous increase since the past week, came down following the arrival of truck loads of vegetables here from the riot affected Darrang districts today.
Machkhowa Vegetable Owners Association, which controls the supply of vegetables in Guwahati, said the price had gone down by as much as 60 per cent following a huge supply in the market almost after a week.
The Dalgaon and Kharupetia areas provided more than 55 trucks of vegetables to Guwahati market.
With the supply drying up since last week due to curfew and violence, the markets of Kharupetia and Dalgaon were closed.
The wholesalers association said, ''There is no problem in sight unless an unforseen factor further disrupts the supply chain.'' Guwahati is dependant on Darrang, Barpeta Road and Shillong with more than 60 per cent of the total stock coming from Darrang district alone.
While Barpeta Road provides about 30 per cent, ten per cent of the stock comes from Shillong zone.
