Two Maoists killed in police encounter in Orissa
Jeypore, Oct 10 (UNI) Two Maoists, including a woman cadre, were killed during an encounter with the Greyhound from Andhra Pradesh and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Orissa police inside Baramunda forest, about 140 km from here today.
Police said acting on a tip off that about 20 Maoists were hiding in a forest, a joint operation by the Greyhound jawan and SOG from Orissa raided the Almonda village.
During the encounter, a woman Maoist identified as Jyoti, commandant of the Koraput Regional Committee, along with another cadre was killed on the spot, while others managed to escape.
Police had recovered one revolver and some Maoist literatures from the hideout.
The bodies of the two Maoists were later brought to Narayanpatna for post-mortem, police said.
The combing operation, jointly launched by the Andhra Pradesh and Orissa police, had been intensified after the encounter.
