Special control rooms for Diwali in Tiruchirapalli

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 10: The Tiruchirapalli City Police will establish two special control rooms at Chinthamani Chathiram Bus stand and NSB Road, the city's busiest commercial hub, as part of the security plan drafted exclusively for the ensuing Diwali festival, according to city Police commissioner A Alexander Mohan.

He told newsmen here yesterday both the control rooms will function under the supervision of an officer in the rank of Assistant Commissioner and monitor movements in the commercial hubs of NSB Road, Big Bazaar Street and Chinna Kadai Street through surveillance cameras installed along the business nerve centres to prevent crimes such as baggage lifting and pocket picking besides helping in tracing missing children.

To a question he said that special crime teams have been formed who will be deployed in different places to monitor the movement of criminals.

Temporary watch towers would be erected at vantage points along the busy roads in the commercial areas as part of the 'pre-festival bandobust arrangement'. A complete profile of criminals indulging in property crimes along with their photograph was already with the city police, he said. The Commissioner said combing operations were being carried out in the night to nab anti-social elements at large, he added.
