NGO makes 5,000 metre long cardamom garland for girl child cause

Surat, Oct 10 (UNI) In a unique attempt to spread awareness against female foeticide, city-based Akhil Bhartiya Jeenmata Seva Sangh prepared a 5,000 metre long cardamom garland today.

The 5,000 women, who prepared the garland using 73 kg cardamoms, contributed 51 cardamoms each.

''At each metre, a small card opposing Girl child killing has been kept. This is done to make people aware of our cause. People have supported us greatly in our work,'' Sharad Khandelwal, President of the Sangh, said.

A morcha was taken out by the Sangh for the cause, from Parvat Patia to Ambica Niketan Temple.

Rekha Khandelwal, another member of the Sangh, said, ''Such awareness drives are necessary for protecting girl child and maintaining the balance in society. If something is not done now, it would be too late.'' UNI HT RN AE HT2128
