Shillong, Oct 10 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy today said the issue of dropping Donkupar Massar from his cabinet will be taken up during the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) coordination committee meeting next week.

Mr Massar who holds the Mining and Geology, Excise in the NCP-backed MPA government has been accused of assaulting and threatening to kill four labourers in Borsora, bordering Bangladesh in West Khasi hills district.

Three of those who were assaulted by the minister had filed an FIR with the Ranikor police station in West Khasi district.

The state police have already registered a criminal case against the minister. '' We have registered the case, but need to follow procedure and require the Assembly speaker's permission before we proceed with the case against the minister,'' District Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said.

Today, ten organisations called on the Chief Minister and demanded immediate arrest and removal of Mr Massar from the cabinet.

In a memorandum submitted to Dr Roy, the NGOs claimed that the minister had beaten up and abused four labourers- Roming Jyrwa, Robert Ramseij, Ribok Nongsiej and Protis Ramsiej without any provocation.

He then asked them to run along the road while chasing them with his vehicle with the VIP siren blaring.

''The minister threatened to run them over if they didn't run fast enough. He later took them to his office and asked them to sign a blank paper and the labourers complied as his men were pointing guns at them,'' the letter said.

Dr Roy, however said, ''As I am heading a coalition government, I cannot take a unilateral decision. The MPA coordination committee will dicuss the issue and accordingly decide whether to drop Massar.'' He said the coordination committee, of which he is the chairman, will meet next week.

Meanwhile, the Congress party had also urged the ruling MPA government to take steps to refrain the minister from further committing such uncivilised acts.
