TDP to support separate Telangana: Naidu
Hyderabad, Oct 9: TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday, Oct 9 said that the party had taken a decision to support the cause of the separate Telagana by honouring the sentiments of the people of the region. Earlier the party had opposed this move and stood for a united Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu while addressing the press after the polit bureau meeting of the TDP said the polit bureau had decided to support a separate Telangana. The core committee appointed by the party to discuss the issue of the separate Telangana had given its report to the polit bureau supporting the formation of the State after hoding discussions with various sections of people from Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana Regions.
The polit bureau had detailed discussions on the committee's suggestions for four days before deciding to support the cause. Alleging the Congress was responsible for separatist tendencies in the State, he said its leaders were utilising the separate Andhra and separate Telangana Movements for political survival.
He alleged the Congress, during 2004 elections, assured separate Telangana and contested the elections in alliance with the Telangana Rastra Samithi. Even AICC President Sonia Gandhi said the Congress would honour the sentiments of the people of Telangana.
During the last four and half years, the Congress party had not taken any decision on the matter and ditched the people of Telagnana. He said the TDP was commited to the development of the Telangana and protecting the welfare of the people of the region.
Asked whether the TDP would go in alliance with the TRS in the next elections, he said the party would announce its poll alliances at an appropriate time.
A resolution on the party's decision would be sent to Pranab Mukherjee Committee on separate Telangana.
