Paddy procurement brisk in Punjab, crosses 24 lakh tonnes

Chandigarh, Oct 9: Paddy is being procured at a brisk pace in Punjab and so far six government agencies and traders had purchased over 24 lakh tonnes of the foodgrain.

While the bulk of the procurement has been made by the five state food agencies, the FCI has so far purchased 31,483 tonnes of paddy.

The millers had procured 2,97,268 tonnes till yesterday evening.

The border district of Ferozepur was leading in paddy procurement with 5,24,548 tonnes having been pruchased. Another border district, Tarn Taran was at the second spot with 2,26,407 tonnes.

The Punjab Food and Supplies had set up 1622 procurement centres throughout the state to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
