Five killed, 2 injured in road mishap in Punjab

Moga, Oct 9 (UNI) Five persons were killed and two others sustained serious injuries when the car in which they were travelling met with an accident near Buginpura village on Moga-Ludhiana highway late last night, police sources today said.

According to the police, the car first rammed into the highway divider and then hit a stationary three wheeler before smashing into a roadside tree. The occupants of the car were returning to Jagraon in Ludhiana district after attending a marriage function at Moga when the mishap occured.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the driver and other occupants in the car had consumed liquor at the marriage function.

The deceased were identified as Gurdip Singh, Pankaj Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Raju and Raminder Singh, all residents of Jagraon.

The injured, Balwinder Singh anmd Jasbir Singh were brought to the civil hospital here and then refered to the CMC hospital, Ludhiana.
