CM's plea to political parties on Lankan Tamils' issue
Chennai, Oct 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today appealed to all political parties in the State to sink their differences over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue and rally unitedly to put an end to the sufferings of the Tamils.
In a message, in the form of a poem, Mr Karunanidhi said the need of the hour was for all political parties in the State to put behind their differences in their approach to the ethnic issue in Sri Lanka.
He said it was unfortunate that when the Tamils all over the world had appreciated the efforts taken by the DMK Government and were unanimous for a peaceful settlement to the Tamils problem, political parties were divided (on the issue) in the State.
Mr Karunanidhi also commended the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre for extending a hand of support to the efforts taken by the State Government to save the Tamils in the island.
Referring to Manmohan Singh Government summoning the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Delhi and lodging its protest over the attacks on Tamils, the DMK leader pointed out ''the Centre has opened its door for help after hearing cries from Tamil Nadu to save the Tamils in Sri Lanka.'' He said the State Governments efforts to put an end to the sufferings of Tamils in the island received commendation from Norway Tamil Sangam, London Parliament Committee, a Physician in America, Sri Lankan Minister Senathiraja, MP and North America Tamil Sangam.
