Australian beaten to death in Goa; 3 held
Panaji, Oct 9: On Thursday, Oct 9 a 65-year-old Australian national was allegedly killed at Calangute's beach bar, 10 km from Goa. Three persons were later detained by Calangute police officials for brutally assaulting the Australian national John Kallie, who was touring Goa.
Kallie died 10 hours after the assault while he was treated at Goa Medical College. Police have detained two waiters and a security guard of the bar for their alleged involvement in assaulting the Australian national. The incident occurred at 8 am on Wednesday, Oct 8 when Kallie was having beer in the bar. Police sources said that he entered into an argument with the waiter which resulted in the altercation. The deceased was pushed down and assaulted in the bar.
The Australian was later shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, where he died after being treated for almost ten hours. Superintendent of Police Bosco George said that the case is being investigated and no comments can be offered at this moment. "We have detained three people... There is no formal arrest till now," he added.
